I made this piece for the exhibition ‘becoming…’ in Cardiff (September 2011). I took the words of a verse of the song ‘Ol’ Man River’ which the singer and early civil rights activist Paul Robeson re-wrote and printed them within the shape of the River Taff as it runs through Cardiff. Each letter was individually hand-printed from wooden typeblocks. The work occupies an area 7.5 metres high by 2 metres wide.
