Following a career in commercial illustration in the UK and moving to live in southern France, I completed a Masters degree in Fine Art at Cardiff School of Art & Design (UWIC) in September 2008. My piece for the MA final show (‘Solstice Piece’) was chosen by the artist Simon Fenoulhet for review and inclusion as an MAStar on the Axis artists’ resources website.
As an artist, the interests and concerns which inform my practice are mainly centred around issues of perception and on looking at the gaps that exist between perception, recognition and understanding. I am also interested in questions of ‘framing’ and identifying the boundaries between art and the world, as well as the ability of art to encapsulate complex ideas within a simplicity of form. One of the main strands within my practice is a consideration of memory and the selectiveness which we apply in both remembering and forgetting. Site-specific installation and an engagement with the ephemeral aspects of this type of work is an increasingly important part of my practice.
